Independent Medical Exams:

Independent medical exams are set up in accordance with the state-specific laws.

Appointments are scheduled to occur within 12 days from the date Crossland receives the case, allowing time for proper written notification to the claimant (and if represented, his/her attorney). Rush cases are the exception and we will accommodate these cases upon request. Special attention is always given to extenuating circumstances such as hiring a translator and arranging transportation. Immediate advisement is given to the claims representative on all events concerning appointment scheduling.

Independent Medical Exams Process :

IME Request Intake:
Once a referral is made via Crossland’s web based referral and Case Management system, the claimants location is immediately identified by county. A service representative will locate the closest IME consultant that meets the criteria according to the requested specialty training and/or certification.

Scheduling:
An appointment date and time is arranged with the IME consultant’s office. Once contact is made with the claimant or the claimant’s legal representation, the responsible party is made aware of the time and date of the IME. Certified mail and rush appointment scheduling can be completed upon request. Notification letters of examinations are sent to all parties at least seven business days prior to the scheduled date of the exam. Copies of notification letters are sent to the claimant and legal representation (if applicable) as well as to the claims examiners for their records

Notification:
Now that the claimant or claimant’s attorney has been advised of the IME, appointment letters are sent to all concerned parties advising of the appointment date and time. Also stated on the appointment letter are explicit instructions to advise what the nature of the IME request is concerning and how to contact Crossland’s Claimant Service Department. Information is also provided to assist the claimant with any questions that arise.

Day of Exam:
On the day of the exam, Crossland continues the open line of communication between the claimant and the IME consultant. Our Service team is always on hand to help the claimant with directions or answer questions from the IME consultant. Once a claimant appears at the IME consultant office they are asked to complete a history form and submit photo ID. The physician will spend as much time as necessary with the claimant depending on the nature of the reported injury and complexity of the claimant’s history.

IME Reports:
The selected IME doctors will address the questions requested by the Insurance Carriers representatives. Turn- around time ranges from 3-5 working days from the exam date. Crossland will advise the Insurance Carrier of the need for a re-examination based on the examining
physicians findings.

Disability LTD/STD

Independent Medical Exams:

Our disability examining consultants are qualified and experienced in evaluating both short and long term disability. Delineation of a disability may vary as determined by the insurer and/or the individual policy. Issues emanating from disease, illness, surgery, trauma, and cognitive/mental health are among some of the bases for disability claims.

The Independent Medical Exam and Functional Capacity Evaluation are tools which can be used in evaluating and understanding the level and severity of the disability status in a particular claim.
Through Crossland, the disability IME will address those issues pertinent to the specific claim and conditions of the individual policy as requested by the medical claims representative. The appropriate medical treatment can be discussed as well as the degree of, and projected period of disability.

The Functional Capacity Evaluation will prove essential as an assessment which measures the claimant’s level of function and ability to sustain under prolonged activity. Crossland’s panel of FCE experts provide detailed reports summarizing the comprehensive evaluation which indicates an accurate level of the individual’s capabilities.

Crossland’s national panel of disability evaluating consultants consist of physicians such as orthopedists, neurologists, neurophysiologists, neurosurgeons, occupational medicine, obstetrics, gynecologists, physical medicine & rehabilitation, rheumatologists, otolaryngologists, psychiatrists, internal medicine specialists and other practitioners and licensed medical professionals.
